  1. You realize he's a heresiarch and not Orthodox, right?

  2. There is a "Primate" of an "Armenian Western Diocese" in the US?

How many Orthodox and not-so-Orthodox dioceses, archdioceses, eparchies, vicarates, etc. do we have in the US anyway?

This reminds me of when I learned that there is apparently a 'Carpatho-Russian Diocese" in the US. I came across a blog post where one commenter in particular just went on and on about how awesome his diocese was, how grateful to the EP, those dastardly Muscovites, etc. I asked him how much longer his diocese expected to be genetically 'Carpatho-Russian.'

    Silence.

This nonsense really needs to stop. If the Armenians want to have an Armenian Church, they can go have it in their very own country of Armenia.

BTW, I am in the Antiochian Archdiocese and I have no problem with some level of hymnology, prayers, the parish festival, the "feel" of the Liturgy, etc. from the mother country. We owe them a great debt for bringing us the true Faith, after all. But the US is Anglo/Celt-descended and propositional, and that is the context in which successive generations will get their culture, their politics and, most importantly, their spouses. The ethnic clubs will either adapt or they will go extinct.

    1. Let me say that the Armenian Church is not part of Eastern Orthodoxy and so an Armenian hierarch for Armenians in America makes sense.

On the topic of Carpatho-Rusyns, the history of them being under the EP and not Moscow has a somewhat complex history that involves the Metropolia-now-OCA that is not to be ignored. While I'm sure some of the diocese has to do with ethnicity some of it also has to do with liturgical practices, music, and the like.

    3. I can only point you to a book as there aren't any good historical treatments online that I know of.

  3. To my knowledge the esteemed Archbishop Derderian has never uttered a word of heresy in his life, let alone originating any. His Christology is completely Cyrillian, which he ably demonstrated at a public lecture in Los Angeles a few years ago.

I see that the "netdox" habit of ignorant and nasty comments is alive and well from reading what is above. I am greatly saddened to see a Coptic Orthodox priest needlessly attacking a church with which he is in full communion, and may I gently remind him that there was an Armenian Bishop appointed to serve the faithful in the US decades before there was any Coptic Orthodox presence. I would respect the critics of the Armenian Church more if they had better manners.
