But this charge does not hold against Antioch either unless you can show that the cessation of communion goes beyond the Patriarchal level and that the faithful have been instructed accordingly.

It is simply an unfortunate fact that some choose to ignore that during this controversy the the MP and its supporters have swept aside fundamental Orthodox ecclesiological principles. For example, Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev has been giving instructions to “the children of the Russian Church” and to “Russian speakers” who have been residing outside the canonical territory of an MP bishop for years and who in fact are not under their authority.
Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11459948335722904923noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-73042886598650075.post-82052173438255930652018-11-26T04:36:26.439-06:002018-11-26T04:36:26.439-06:00Let's keep in mind that Antioch and Jerusalem ...Let's keep in mind that Antioch and Jerusalem are (and have been for some time) out of communion over ONE PARISH. On the one hand, 'Yes'. Of course the Divine Eucharist is not to be wielded as a weapon. No one would dispute this. On the other hand, 'No'. When will we acknowledge that the cessation of commemoration and withdraw from ecclesiastical communion is a canonically validated practice used many times, by many saints across history? How many times does it need to be said? We can debate whether is was used properly, but it is important for it to be known that it is certainly not 'unthinkable' for this approach to be taken. The Holy Fathers who produced the canons understood that the process would be disruptive, but that it would make manifest a wound already afflicting the body of the Church in hopes that bringing it to light would result in its treatment. As we will read tomorrow, "But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light." May God enlighten all!Fr Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18039229794837415481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-73042886598650075.post-35943340998854030582018-11-24T06:55:13.729-06:002018-11-24T06:55:13.729-06:00Wise words!Wise words!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
