EP reportedly not accepting legitimacy of Slovak Church

ISTANBUL (sedmitza.ru) [machine translation] - Communique published April 1 Ecumenical Patriarchate on the situation in the Czechoslovak Orthodox Church. Patriarch Bartholomew, originally stood on the side of Simeon locum tenens Metropolitan Brno and Olmutz, and not to recognize the results of the elections, articulates his positions extremely tough:

1. Election after the resignation of Archbishop Christopher new Primate Archbishop Rostislav Czechoslovak Church does not recognize the Ecumenical Patriarchate "in connection with canonical violations during the election."

2. Accordingly, any action of the Czechoslovak Church hierarchy is anti-canonical and not recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

3. Constantinople Orthodox Church "as the Mother Church is ready to take an active part in resolving the problem, calls on both parties to continue negotiations and to avoid any action that may aggravate the current sad situation in the Czechoslovak Church."

Recall that on the initiative of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople in the beginning of March 2014 at the patriarchal residence in Phanar talks were held between representatives of the Metropolitan Archbishop Simeon and Rostislav - Bishop George and Joachim, but they were unsuccessful.

  1. With regard to the present prevailing situation in the Autocephalous Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, the Ecumenical Patriarchate has the following to declare:

    1) The manner of the election that took place for the new Primate of the aforementioned Church following the resignation of Archbishop Christopher from his throne has not yet been recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and other Orthodox Autocephalous Churches due to certified irregularities of a canonical nature pertaining to the election.

    2) Consequently, any canonical action in the above named Church resulting from the composition of its Hierarchy after this election is considered uncanonical and is not recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

    3) As the Mother Church of the Autocephalous Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, the Ecumenical Patriarchate remains prepared to contribute to the canonical resolution of the unfortunate situation that has emerged there and invites all involved parties to continue their conversations with the Mother Church in order to discern the appropriate solution, while avoiding every activity that might further complicate the existing regrettable situation in that Church.

    2. Which means that HOW many do not?? Just a thought. . .

The EP needs to shore up unity and can't afford to have another Ukraine or Estonia situation before the Great Council in 2016.
