NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo receives Pat. Athenagoras award

This man, not just a tacit accepter of abortion, but a man who pushed hard for late-term abortions (poison, mutilation, and dismemberment of our young in the womb) received an award from the Greek Archdiocese today. Also, let us not forget, a man who said of pro-life people, "they have no place in the state of New York." This is the man they are honoring today with the Patriarch Athenagoras Human Rights Award.

    I understand that this has to do with his involvement in the rebuilding of St Nicholas, destroyed during the 9/11 attacks; HOWEVER... Anaxios!

    This is horrific. How is it possible for an apostolic Christian Church to award a persecutor of the pro-life movement for a human rights award?!? The man supports the murder of babies in the womb....in the most horrific ways!!! This is beyond my comprehension. Anaxios!!!!!!!! The GOA has lost its way.

    In a real way this is sort of ecclesiology as Nihilism. It is a deep and profound argument for the church being but a mystical body and not visible or real in the world at all.

    While it doesn't excuse what's going on here, technically the group responsible for this award is the Order of St Andrew (AKA the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which is not the Greek Archdiocese or Ecumenical Patriarchate per se giving the award, but it certainly has the appearance of approval, which in ecclesiastic terms is just as bad.

      Well, there is a room full of bishops and they are the ones that are blessing this. I'm sure if they wanted to give it to some vagante clergy there would be an episcopal block to such a move. If it being an Archons thing is cover, it's poor cover.
