It's an exciting story of faith and Vatican intrigue. Cynics will continue to be cynics it seems....Wow!!! Cynics will continue to be cynics it seems. We live in an age of unbridled cynicism indeed! Not only to do with individual moral failings (of being excessively & disproportionately cynical in everything) but also to do with the cultural zeitgeist we live in which thrives on umbridled cynicism, irrational paranoia, & mass hysteria!

What a welcome change to witness gestures (completely contrary to those trends)... of mutual trust, embrace, & reconciliation from Pope France and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew!
May their tribe increase, and may it facilitate full reconciliation among Catholics & Orthodox!
Axios! Especially because of our differing views on who Peter is.

The question about Francis' authority to be giving relics like that is a good one. Then again, who is the pope accountable to?

"After that, the reliquary will be kept at the Ecumenical Patriarchate."
Does this mean pilgrims will be able to venerate Saint Peter's relics?

But let's hope Saint Peter's relics' presence in the Phanar will have a positive effect on Pat. Bartholomew.
Matvey Casshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14121365910878071505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-73042886598650075.post-25873745135658176472019-07-02T10:00:33.549-05:002019-07-02T10:00:33.549-05:00A magnanimous gesture, I suppose, but I'm not ...A magnanimous gesture, I suppose, but I'm not sure the relics of +Peter, reposing in the very apartments of his successors in his Holy See, were +Francis's to give.

My cynical take is +Francis approves of +Bartholomew's universalist ambitions and is shoring up the Phanar in one of the few ways available. The Anti-Gnostichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04386593803225823789noreply@blogger.com
