(CWNews.com) - The mayor of Presov, Slovakia, Pavol Hagyari, wants to build Europe’s largest statue of Jesus Christ.
The statue would be nearly 110 feet in height: about 15 feet taller than Lisbon, Portugal’s statue of Christ the King, but still 15 feet short of the world’s tallest statue of Christ overlooking Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The mayor of Slovakia’s third-largest city says the statue, expected to cost $660,000, will serve as a “symbol of faith and Christianity." Hagyari expects donors to support the project and hopes that the Christ statue will promote “religious tourism."
