Metropolitan Jonah's Pan-Orthodox sermon

Delivered at St. Seraphim Orthodox Cathedral last weekend. It has been panned in a few forums for digging at the Ecumenical Patriarch and being overly political for the occasion. You'll have to judge for yourself.

  1. His comments are reprehensible to basic orthodox sensiblities. he is behaving as a schimatist. having traveled to the mother church and phanar on three occaisions in 2000 for the millenium congress, then for the return of the relics, then for the papal visit it would seem that perhaps i have a greater perspective of ecumenical patriachate. His beatitude openly acknowldges that he was unware of the scope of orthodoxy in america until his elleivation then how can he claim with such vitriol and certainity the state of the global orthodoxy. by the way the greek orthodox chruch holds services in the vanacular of the people throughout the world. p.s. the new testiment is a greek 'thing' and the united states was founded on hellenic ideals of.

  2. Uh-huh. So we get a drunk, incoherent person who cannot spell or punctuate a sentence with his nose firmly up the private parts of the EP. Remind me again: Why did I even look at the comments, knowing that there was probably some idiot lurking there?

  3. I'm actually usually rather happy with the comments this blog attracts. This issue of "control" of the American Church in particular and the Orthodox Church more broadly is a lodestone for heated discussion.
