(Armenian WD) - On Sunday, August 23, 2009, His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian celebrated the Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon at the temporary sanctuary of the Western Diocese in Burbank. During the Celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the Primate also ordained Vartan Zakarian and Garen Bal to the Diaconate of the Armenian Holy Apostolic Church.

Interesting garments those Armenian deacons are wearing -- I think this is the first picture i have seen of Armenian clergy.
ReplyDeleteThe Armenian liturgy, vestments, prayers, etc. are all very intriguing. A reading of their history (esp. ties with Rome and Byzantium) is also quite interesting. I recommend the hagiography of Nerses of Lambron not only as a solid first look into an Armenian hierarch, but also for all the enlightening sections on their history found therein.
