KYIV (RISU / UA President) - President Viktor Yushchenko received the delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate: Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, Secretary General of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople archimandrite Elpidoforos Lambriniadis, and priest Vasilius Papafanasius. The presidential press-service reported this story on October 5, 2009.
At the meeting both sides expressed satisfaction with the development of the dialogue initiated last year during the visit to Ukraine of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I to celebrate the 1020 anniversary of the baptism of Kyivan Rus. In particular they noted the progress in relations between the Orthodox of Ukraine.
President Yushchenko emphasized the need to deepen and broaden the dialogue between confessions with the aim of overcoming the contradictions and unification.

I hope that the recent visit to Ukraine by the delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate will result in a closer relationship between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Patriarch of Constantinople.
