(svots.edu) - The old became new and friends were made, as the current St Vladmir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary Choir sang eastern liturgical music in the newly-dedicated Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University on the afternoon of October 1st.
The Seminary Choir was invited to sing during the dedication week of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit by Sr Marie J. Farrington S.S.M.N., on behalf of Sacred Heart University’s Cardinal Spidlik Center for Ecumenical Understanding. The dedication week services were only the first part of a series of planned special events that will continue for the next year. Professor Alla Generalow, SVS Director of Liturgical Music, directed the choir, and Fr Chad Hatfield, SVS Chancellor, presided at the service. Click here to see a photo gallery of the day's events.
Approximately 150 people participated in the service, including Dr Anthony J. Cernara, President of Sacred Heart University, and Dr Thomas V. Forget, Provost and Vice-President. Other participants came from the University and from the local community – both Orthodox and non-Orthodox.
Fr Chad, Professor Generalow and the members of the Choir were delighted to celebrate the feast of St Romanos, by sharing the glories of the Akathist. “Sacred Heart University has built an acoustically marvelous chapel, “ said Professor Generalow. “It was a great joy for all the singers and myself to sing an Akathist to the Mother of God as one of the first events ever held in this new worship space.”
If you would like your parish or institution to host an SVS male or combined choir, please click here to contact Professor Generalow.
