Diocese of the South Pastoral Conference notes

Fort Worth, TX (DOSOCA) - The annual DOS Pastoral Conference concluded in Fort Worth, TX yesterday with His Beatitude offering closing remarks to the clergy assembled.

The keynote speaker for the Conference was Archimandrite Meletios (Webber) abbot of the St John the Wonderworker Monastery in Manton, CA. Archimandrite Meletios led three talks: Monasticism in the Contemporary Church, Being Present in the Presence: Heart and Mind in the Practice of Prayer and Dealing with Depression. I listened to two of the three mentioned and enjoyed them a lot. Abbot Meletios speaks eloquently on monasticism and his talk on prayer is a good encapsulation of the material from his book.

Father Meletios drew on his background as an Orthodox cleric for over 30 years and his background as a psychotherapist.

After the opening Keynote address on Monasticism in the Contemporary Church, His Beatitude and Abbot Gerasim, formerly of St Herman Monastery in Platina, CA, now currently a special student at St. Vladimir’ Seminary, joined Archimandrite Meletios in a panel discussion on the keynote topic and other questions.

Recordings of the talks are available here. A recording of his talk given to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church (an event separate from the conference) is available here.
