I don't mean to snark but I found this really disappointing. Not only could I not identify what manner of service it was, (I'd have expected a moleben, or an akathist, or something similar), but whatever it was had no "oomph" to it. I can't and wouldn't want to judge the hearts of those taking part but where was the feeling?
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me why Eastern Catholic nuns have to wear western nun habits. Why can't Eastern Catholics stick with only Byzantine traditions and rubrics. Their hierarchy is the biggest culprit. They will do anything they can to avoid contact or even associate with their Eastern Orthodox brothers. They would rather be more Vatican 2 style Roman than Byzantine. They need someone like Metroplitan Hilarion to oversee them, than some aging hippie like Stephen, who should just go and become Roman Catholic.
ReplyDeleteI can't speak to the oomph, but I've never seen that many people there before. I stopped in to take pictures one Sunday and the liturgy has maybe 10 people in it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the nuns, there are some bright spots there. Holy Theophany is a good example: http://www.hrmonline.org/HTM
As for the old guard, more Latinized nuns... many of them are moving in with their Western sisters as they are getting older and have few/no new members.
