How Armenians Pray

I post this not only for those within driving distance of the Armernian seminary, but as a note for future listening as they put many of their talks online afterward. UPDATE: The seminary just confirmed this will be made available online once the talk is over.

Seminary Dean and Professor of Liturgical Studies Fr. Daniel Findikyan will speak about the Spirituality of Prayer in the Armenian Church.

(stnersess.edu) - On Monday, April 19, V. Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan will present a public lecture entitled, "How Armenians Pray." The lecture will take place at the Seminary at 7:30PM.

Fr. Findikyan's lecture is in memory of the Seminary's founder, Archbishop Tiran Nersoyan, who died in 1989. The lecture will also close the Seminary's public lecture series for this academic year. Since October the St. Nersess has invited Armenian and non-Armenian theologians to ponder some of the the distinguishing features of the Armenian Church's theology and Christian expression in a lecture series entitled, The Armenian Church: A Distinctive Christian Voice.

A People In Love with God

Fr. Findikyan will consider the Armenian Church's theology and spirituality of prayer. "The Armenians have been a people in love with God," says the Seminary Dean and Professor of Liturgical Studies. "This is eminently clear when one carefully reads the innumerable prayers of the Church, which display a unique Christian spirituality."

In his lecture, Fr. Findikyan will quote liberally from the liturgical prayers of the Armenian Church, as well some of the devotional prayers of the great Armenian Church fathers.

Renowned Specialist in the Liturgical Tradition of the Armenian Church

Fr. Daniel Findikyan is one of the world's leading authorities on the worship tradition of the Armenian Church. He has lectured internationally and throughout the United States. In addition to his Seminary duties, he serves as recurring Visiting Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. He has published several books and dozens of scholarly articles on the liturgies of the Armenian Church and other eastern churches. His latest book, entitled, Frequently-Asked Questions on the Badarak: The Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Church, is scheduled for release by St. Vartan Press this year. Fr. Daniel is also currently offering an internet course entitled, Worthy and Right: The Divine Liturgy of the Armenian Church, whose lectures are streamed live via the Seminary's website each week.
