Diocesan Missions Commission Meets in Farmville, VA

Having talked to some ACROD priests recently, it's clear that there is an effort underway to begin mission planting in a big way. To that end in fact the Sobor (Church Slavonic: собор or "assembly") was actually paused so that people could come up with evangelical ideas to move forward on church growth. The sobor will reconvene next month.

FARMVILLE, VA (ACROD) - The members of the Diocesan Mission Commission are meeting today in Farmville, Virginia, at the location of a proposed new mission parish. In recent months, interest has been expressed in establishing a mission parish in southern Virginia. In recent weeks, through personal contacts and by establishing a presence on Facebook, a total of 18 Orthodox families living in the Farmville, Virginia area have been identified.

There has been a renewed interest and focus on mission and evangelization within the diocese since last Summer's Diocesan Sobor. Since that time new missions have been established in Murphy, NC, Hampton Roads, VA, Columbus, Ohio and now, God-willing in Farmville, VA.

Diocesan Faithful are urged to keep our new mission parishes in their prayers as well as the members of the Mission Commission as they labor to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord to Baptize All Nations.
