(FOC) - The gathering of Finnish Orthodox Church on June 11th-13th 2010
The nationwide gathering of Finnish Orthodox Church “kirkkopäivät” is organized on June 11th -13th 2010 in the city of Joensuu in eastern part of Finland. The Honoured Guest of the orthodox gathering is His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I.
All aspects of the orthodox way of living can be found in Joensuu: divine services, orthodox church music and get-together spirit. The program will also include interesting lectures, exhibitions and excursions to Valamo monastery, SF-Film village at Kontiolahti, Taipale and Ilomantsi municipalities. The main venues, Joensuu Areena and Carelia-hall at Joensuu University are located close to central Joensuu. The event extends all over the city including market square, passenger harbour and the surroundings of Joensuu Orthodox Church.
The theme of the event is “Church - the Hope of Creation”. The theme has also an ecological aspect which is taken into account for example in the selection of local food. “Kirkkopäivät” will be one of the biggest events organized by the Finnish Orthodox Church this millenium and you are most welcome to join in.
