Diocese of NY/NJ looks into diaconate program

The Diocese of the South is also looking into a home-grown diaconate program. I don't think it will be online anytime soon, but plans are under way.

(OCA-NYNJ) - His Grace, Bishop +Michael, is reviewing the potential and logistics to establish a diocesan Deaconate Program. During the recent meeting of the Council of Presbyters, His Grace shared his desire to enhance and support parish ministries in all ways, including the potential of educating, training and ordaining a permanent deacon in parishes where a suitable candidate responds to this vocational calling.

Clergy of the diocese will receive by email attachment an outline of a deaconate program modeled after a currently successful program developed and conducted in the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania. The program outline is also published on the Diocesan Web-page: http://nynjoca.org
As dean of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, His Grace was instrumental in the establishment of the currently successful deaconate program. A review of the program proposed for our diocese and feedback from the clergy of the diocese has been requested. Send your comments directly to Bishop +Michael at mdahulich@stots.edu.

Since there may be the possibility of launching a diocesan Deaconate Program this year, your attention to this matter in a timely fashion is appreciated.

  1. I think it is wonderful news that there is this recognition of the necessity of the diaconate and a willingness to actively prepare men for this service to God and Church.
