Antiochian synod meets, Met. Philip consolidates power

"...and I am unanimous in that!"
There is some sweeping stuff in the OCANews website article (to be found here). Bishops must now call themselves "Auxiliary Bishops" in all documents, the diocesan websites are to be shut down (controlling the flow of information to the archdiocesan office), bishops can be commemorated (subject to change whenever Met. Philip wishes) after Met. Philip in the liturgy, all money needs to be sent to the archdiocese and bishops can't accept money themselves (remember the now famous "I have millions" quote by Met. Philip last week), priestly brotherhoods have been banned (they have been thorns in the side of Met. Philip when he has done unpopular things in the past),  the Hierarchical Manual is to be rewritten, and no negative comments about any of this can be made. There is now one voice alone, or, as Mrs. Slocombe from Are You Being Served used to say for emphasis "...and I am unanimous in that!"

  1. Talk about a power grab! Is this what the Patriarch wants? If I were Antiochian I would be concerned. May Bishop Mark be Blessed and a Blessing in the OCA.

  2. Wrong. The BISHOPS can't make disparaging comments. The laity? Time to make a whole lot of noisy fuss. We need to cut off funding to that miserable old sinner and all his cronies. Let him use his millions to run Englewood since he has so much.

  3. Wrong. The Bishops and clergy CAN make any remarks they want if they are willing to suffer the consequences. St. John Chrysostom died in exile. St. Athanasius was exiled 14 times during his life. Get some balls, folks.

  5. it's stuff like this that reminds me about my hang ups with the Orthodox Church... Not that any church has it all together...
