Blessed repose, Metropolitan Nicholas. Memory Eternal!

It is with a heavy heart that I post this notification of Met. Nicholas' passing.

When my wife and I went to see him last year we took along our one year old son with us. He sat down and talked with us while my son, having grown tired of sitting, took his bag of crackers with him as he walked around the office. Every few minutes he would walk up to Vladyka and hand him a cracker. His Eminence would inspect it for a moment and hand it playfully back. Tired and a bit frail, he showed great patience for our rambunctious son and let him explore the icons and Old World pieces in his office. He gave generously of his time with us, blessed us, and walked us out. It is a memory I will cherish.

Met. Nicholas' long service as bishop will certainly cast a long, benevolent shadow over his diocese for years to come. Who will wear the archpastoral omophor with such dedication and love for his people?

My prayers are with the God-protected Carpatho-Russian diocese. May his memory be eternal!
