Orthodox Christian poet giving lecture at Fordham

I don't think I can repeat it enough: 60% of American Orthodox youth leave the church after high school. We should do whatever can be done to connect the Church to young adults.

April 12, 2011 - FORDHAM UNIVERSITY (OCF) - The Orthodox Christian Studies Program and the Francis and Ann Curran Center for American Catholic Studies is sponsoring a lecture titled "Land of Unlikeness: Poetry and Prayer" with Professor Scott Cairns on Tuesday April 26, 2011 at 6:00 pm at the Duane Library in Tognino Hall of the Rose Hill Campus.

Scott Cairns is an Orthodox Christian poet, essayist, and memoirist, as well as Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Cairns is the award-winning author of six poetry collections, including Compass of Affection, a collection of translations by Christian mystics, a spiritual memoir, and numerous other works. Cairns’ works have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, The Paris Review, The New Republic, and other publications.

The lecture is open to the public and all are cordially invited to attend.

  1. I tried reading some of Scott Cairns poems and essays and frankly I was baffled. Couldn't find anything Christian or Orthodox in them. Maybe I just hit the wrong ones. Very Strange!
