(Peckham History Project) - This is the commemoration of St. Mary's Assumption at St.Michaels Eritrean Orthodox Church in Camberwell/Peckham borders. On this day we break our fast which has lasted for two weeks. Our service begins with Mahlet which starts at 4am and lasts 4 hours. This is followed by Liturgy until midday. At the congregation the believers wear white, which symbolises the Heavenly Liturgy. Everybody feels the real blessing of the Virgin Mary, and we sing lots of songs of praises that are spiritually uplifting. Finally the service is closed by prayers led by the priest.
