(BBC) - Wales has become the first country in the UK to introduce a system of presumed consent for organ donation.
After five hours of debate in the Senedd on Tuesday, assembly members voted in favour of the change. Some 43 voted in favour, with eight against and two abstentions.
It will give doctors the right to remove people's organs when they die unless they have registered an objection.
The Welsh government claims the new law will save lives but opponents still have concerns it could add to the distress of bereaved families.

We in Wales have now become mere commodities to be used or harvested as the State sees fit :-(
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, the plan is for only kidneys, heart, liver, lungs and pancreas to be harvested and used for transplant, but of course, that may well change in the future as the clinical "needs" of patients waiting for transplants may dictate.
With the current state of transplant surgery in the UK, we may very well soon get to a stage when faces, hands, feet, womb, bowel, bone joints, cartilage and skin may be harvested too.
I have very grave reservations about this new law.
