Divine Liturgy + Episcopalian Book of Common Prayer

Episcopalians trying their hand at the Divine Liturgy.

(YouTube) - This is an adapted form of the Liturgy of John Chrysostom conforming to the rubrics of the 1979 Prayer Book. This was the second time this has been used in this form. We are learning!

  1. It hurts us. The prayers for "Our Reverend Bishop Katherine".

  2. Sounds like another attempt to justify the false "branch theory" of Christianity. If we use your liturgical services, we have to be deemed one of you.

  3. Strange as this service looks to Orthodox eyes, I suspect it may be the result of the pastor feeling a strong pull toward Orthodoxy. He's taking Liturgy much too serious to be entirely comfortable in the Episcopal Church.

  4. Could be, Father, but there's also a small movement of folks in the Episcopal Church who are looking to create an Eastern Rite Anglicanism within the established Canterbury communion. I believe (though I could be wrong) their de-facto leader is the Rev. Justin R. Cannon, who has edited a book about homosexuality and the Orthodox Church and founded the Inclusive Orthodoxy group some time ago.

"Fr. Justin Cannon, one of the cofounders of SERA, explains, “We Anglicans have prided ourselves on diversity and inclusion yet no accommodation has been made for Anglicans who are drawn to the Eastern Rite. In the Roman Catholic Church there are Eastern Catholics and in the Orthodox Church there is a Western Rite Vicariate. It’s time we lay the foundation for Eastern Rite Anglicanism.”
