The Church under Communism

Pascha procession in Russia (ca. 1970). Communists tried to keep young and educated people out of the Church. There were local police, KOMSOMOL activists, and KGB, who surround church and stopped the "intelligentsia" from entering church buildings. The only way to get inside was to mix with the crowd of old ladies ("babuskas"), who were allowed in since they were "old, stubborn, and useless." Look at the center of this picture closely.
