The Ecumenical Patriarchate and metochia in Ukraine

I woke up this morning to no fewer than five emails from different people asking me to post on the supposed plan of the EP to put a metochion in Kyiv and in Lviv. It's either a plan to support non-canonical groups, an olive branch to the people of Ukraine, or a completely made up story. I don't know, and until I have something concrete to post, I'm not going to repost anything uncorroborated.

  1. The EP used to have a metochion in Kiev until a few months ago: the metochion of St. Pantaleon Athonite Monastery at St. Michael of Kiev Church in Kiev.

  3. From my perspective the opening of an "embassy" church is not a big deal, provided you are addressing the repesentation to the canonical local church. What is more alarming is that there has been some pressure on the EP to recognize the schismatic Kieven Patriarchate. That would be catastrophic and would certainly lead to a major schism within the Orthodox Church.

  4. Then it is mentioned here by Antoine Arjakovsky who is himself part of the Russian speaking parishes in France under the Ecumenical patriarchate: http://arjakovsky.blogspot.ca/2018/02/et-si-le-patriarche-cumenique-de.html
Mike do you know why the metochion of St. Pantaleon Athonite Monastery in Kyiv was closed? No one seems to have made a fuss about it when it was open.

  5. No idea. It wasn't shared to the public, why.

It used to be a nice church, when I was there.
