(AROC-WE) - Communiqué of November 28, 2018 from the Office of the Diocesan Administration
The diocesan administration communicates to all the members of the Archdiocese that, on November 27, 2018, the Holy Synod of our Patriarchate decided to abolish the status of our Archdiocese as an Exarchate.
This decision of the Holy Synod, which has yet to be received officially at the see of the Archdiocese, was in no way requested by the Archdiocese. His Eminence, Archbishop John, was not consulted prior to this decision.
In Istanbul/Constantinople with the secretary of the Archdiocesan Council, Nicholas Lopoukhine, for a meeting of the synodal commission, Archbishop John learned of this decision during a private meeting with the Patriarch.
The Archbishop and the secretary of the Archdiocesan Council will return to Paris shortly. The next meeting of the Council will take place in the coming days to discuss this question.
Until then, as pastor responsible for the parishes and communities of the Archdiocese, Archbishop John asks all the clergy and faithful to maintain their calm and to collect themselves in prayer, so that the Holy Spirit may come to enlighten us all.

as for the Slavs in the USA under the Greek Archdiocese -- you are not Hellenists and one of you have an Hellenist already as your leader --- turmoil may be afoot --- I pray not but everyone needs a plan b and a plan c
perhaps the oca is the only safe haven?????

Having been an ACROD parishioner, and I hope a loyal one, for 20 years, I shudder to think about the implications of "something in the Americas."
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one baffled by how easy it seems to issue and revoke a Tomos? What is the point of receiving a Tomos if there is always the possibility of revoking it in 2-3 decades? I am a bit worried if we're going to start, out of nowhere, reviewing past statements/stances/agreements that seemed to be set in stone and deciding whether we still agree with them.

This all seems petty and somewhat childish. It's somewhat embarrassing, and to be fair, this rash, embarrassing behavior is happening on all sides. Lord, have mercy.

Why is a "Russian" Orthodox Church, in France, under the Greek Patriarch in Istanbul? Is this from a Soviet-era split?

My history may be off, but think of this as the group of Russians separated by communism that became the OCA in NA versus ROCOR. DeleteMichael L: The OCA is a descendant of the Russian Metropolia in the US, which goes all the way back to before the Russian Revolution. It's a complicated history with the usual splits, mergers etc. The Parisian emigres you mention did have a very big influence on the OCA's St Vladimir's Seminary for many years, though that has faded.
