Constantinople reorganizing Holy Synod's makeup

BOSTON (TNH) – Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew announced the new composition of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the period March 1 to August 31 as part of its regular practice of semi-annual reorganization.

The new composition of the Holy Synod, under the presidency of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, includes the following: Metropolitan Augustinos of Germany, Metropolitan Germanos of Tranoupolis, Metropolitan Sotirios of Toronto, Metropolitan Makarios of Anaeon, Metropolitan Theodoritos of Laodicea, Metropolitan Evgenios of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, Metropolitan Amphilochios of Ganos and Chora, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronas, Metropolitan Nathanael of Kos and Nisyros, Metropolitan Konstantinos of Singapore, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Symi, and Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew sets the agenda for the topics that will be discussed in each session. Also, the Patriarch makes the recommendations for elections of new hierarchs, transfers, reorganizations, and elections of new Archbishops and Metropolitans to the Ecclesiastical Eparchies of the Ecumenical Throne around the World.

The next Synodic meeting will be held March 14-16. There will not be a meeting in April due to Holy Week and Easter. Following the March meeting, the Synod will next meet May 9-11.

One of the issues that is expected to be discussed during the next meeting of the Synod is the constant attacks that the Patriarchate of Moscow has launched against the Ecumenical Patriarchate due to its granting of the status of Autocephaly to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on the Feast Day of the Epiphany on January 6, 2019.

The Patriarchate of Moscow is undertaking a divisive effort against the unity of the Orthodox Church in the World, exerting influence, for many reasons, not only ecclesiastical, on the Patriarchates of Antioch, Serbia, and the Church of Poland, which requested from Patriarch Bartholomew that he convene a Synaxis of the Prelates to examine the issue.

Patriarch Bartholomew in his reply to Patriarch Ioannis of Antioch wrote that such a Synaxis will be “unavailing.”

Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria continues his delaying tactics while it is widely known that he has been closely connected with the Patriarchate of Moscow since the time he served there as an Exarch.

Archbishop Ieonymos of Athens and All Greece is playing his own waiting game regarding the recognition of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine, passing the issue on to the Synod of Hierarchs of the Church of Greece, which may be convened in March for the election of new Metropolitans for Sisaniou, Siatistis and Vouliagmeni.

According to information received by The National Herald, the new Synod will also deal with issues related to the reorganization of the Ecclesiastical Eparchies of the Ecumenical Throne abroad, including the United States.

  2. Bartholmew invades the jurisdiction of another autocephalous Church, creates an alternate "church" consisting of defrocked schismatics, resulting in assaults and persecutions and interrogations and Church confiscations against the canonical Church. No other Local Church has recognized his new creation. And it's all the Russian's fault!?!

You can't make this stuff up!

    1. But the Russians can and do.

    2. Mikail, no, you can't make this stuff up. When I was a kid my father would joking say, " Don't try to confuse me with the facts. I've already got my mind made up.", in reference to people who hold irrational and/or delusional beliefs. Very fitting for the current EP.

  3. I think my former ACROD is one of the "Ecclesiastical Eparchies" whose reorganization is up for discussion. If ACROD is attached to the GOA, I can only say that the reaction will be interesting. But I suspect that even the current tone-deaf Patriarchate will have the wisdom to leave that one alone.

  4. ACROD do not hold your breath go to the OCA as fast as you can

    1. The history of the OCA and the ACROD would make that difficult.

    2. Or the UOC of the USA (of which I am a member, for the record). It will be interesting on that front as well. Interesting times.

  5. So let me get this straight, Bozo. The fact that no other Local Church recognizes the new schismatic EP structure in Ukraine, is because the Russians made it up? Yeah. Right.

    1. Is it beyond the Russians to write, create, influence others or attempt to alter others’ POV to what they desire? Do you need a quick answer?
You best me as I’ve not tracked all the various Churches that side with Russia.
I did note an emerging pattern of former Soviet Russified Churches (except Ukraine) that did agree with Moscow’s position and did so with vitriol unbecoming of us who attempt to put on Christ daily.

  6. Is no one going to talk about the revelation that EPB sold a Tomos to Poroshenko for 10,000,000 dollars and land grants? And now its been revealed that Poroshenko held back 15million and EPB shamelessly demanded the rest of his blood money?

Between this and his backhanded Papal claims to Albania's Patriarch, the mask is off, this is who he is, I can't wait until a council is called and we finally call a spade a spade.

    1. Evidence for this Poroshenko deal?

    2. Here's the official deal. Nothing about money, but unspecified transfers of real estate: https://orthodoxsynaxis.org/2019/03/14/agreement-between-ukraine-and-the-ecumenical-patriarchate/

Admittedly the money side is not being covered by main stream media, but you can find various sources pointing out that the St. Nicholas Cathedral in NY is no longer being built because millions of dollars were embezzled, the money trail leading to Istanbul, and the State Department investigated this shortly before EPB changed his tune about Ukraine (at the same time that the State Department promoted the idea of an independent Ukraine). You can draw your own conclusions about what that implies.

Honestly even if you ignore the money trail, the land is enough proof of bribery as far as I'm concerned. EPB doesn't do anything at this level out of charity. It's a literal land grab, in exchange for a rubber stamp of approval.

If you read the Tomos trade deal, he also guaranteed, ahead of time, that he would make all of the Orthodox Churches officially recognize the new schismatic church.

Good luck to him on fulfilling that promise, but it shows you his arrogance that he would make such a promise, both in claiming that kind of power/influence, and that he did so while everyone was vocally opposing his choice.
