On the canonization of Seraphim Rose

(YouTube) On Forgiveness Sunday and exactly one week since Metropolitan Nikolozi of the Georgian Orthodox Church canonized Fr. Seraphim Rose in his diocese of Akhalkalaki, Georgia, Fr. Seraphim's spiritual son, Bishop Gerasim, served in the Archangel Michael Church!

If you look closely, you will see the approximately 8x11 inch icon of Fr. Seraphim Rose on the wall, just behind the priest who censes the entrance of the hierarchs. This icon was written by a monk at St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood Monastery in Platina, CA, where Fr. Seraphim Rose reposed.

Bishop Gerasim's homily begins at approximately 5:30 and Metropolitan Nikolozi comments about canonizing Fr. Seraphim Rose at approximately 11:40.

  1. I'm slightly confused about what is going on here. Has Metropolitan Nikolaz formally glorified Fr. Seraphim (if so glory to God!), with all of the accompanying liturgical rites and hymnography, or is he merely expressing the reality of widespread pious devotion to Fr. Seraphim in his metropolis? The wording here is a bit unclear.

    1. Met Nikoloz has added Fr Seraphim to his canon in his diocese. This means that the faithful under his omophorion are encouraged to suplicate and praise Fr Seraphim in their prayers.

  2. A vital saint for these dark times, especially as one who overcame the sin of Sodom and dedicated his renewed life to God's service.

  3. For a while I've hoped to see Fr Seraphim's glorification: I pictured a joint act by ROCOR and the Serbs. I wonder if there's some opposition, or a jurisdictional snarl, or whether these things just move slowly?
