There is a lot of poppycock coming out of American Orthodox "scholarship" on the topic of the sexes. You could join quite a few Zoom conferences populated with the same 20 people decrying the supposed gross inequities in the area of how men and women are treated in the Church. Oddly, the same group speaking about this imbalance also often sees men and women as interchangeable. So, it is with no little delight that I will be attending the below conference. Please do join me both because it will be good and to support scriptural reason.
(SVOTS) - Join us for the second webinar in The Light of the World Webinar Series. This monthly webinar series will feature speakers from among St Vladimir’s Seminary faculty, alumni, and friends, speaking on a variety of topics while answering a core question:
How are we Christians to be the light of the world?
Drawing inspiration from feedback received through a recent survey we conducted, these webinars aim to address a diverse range of themes that address real and pressing issues facing Orthodox faithful in modern society.
The second webinar in the Light of the World Webinar Series will be co-hosted by Dr Edith Humphrey, SVS Press Author and Professor Emerita of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, and Dr David Bradshaw, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Kentucky, on the topic, Gender: Enlightening Our Minds with the Words of Scripture. This webinar will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Eastern, via Zoom livestream.
The online webinar is open to the public and free of cost. It will be recorded and uploaded to our YouTube channel afterward for easy access. Click the button below to register and to receive the Zoom webinar link.
I have never heard Dr. Bradshaw on this subject (though I like him on others), but I can affirm that Dr. Humphrey deserves much more attention then she gets, as she is a faithful, traditional, and indeed rational commentator on the subject of the binary sexual nature of 'anthropos', women in the Church and their "roles", etc. Her interview with Fr. Thomas Soroka from about a year ago over at Ancient Faith is excellent. The audio is not so good, but there is a transcript.

ReplyDeleteGood to see there is finally a legitimate option on the topic of gender rather than the usual Fordham "Orthodox" crowd constantly pushing for women's ordination and the skittles agenda.
