Elevation to chorepiscopi in the Malankara Church

By way of explanation...

  • What is a "Chorbishop"? Historically, a rural bishop that served many of the functions of a bishop without the full authority to do all things a normal bishop might do. It died out in the West and in Orthodoxy, but remains in Oriental Orthodoxy and elsewhere.
  • What is a a "Valiyapally"? A "principal church" - a title given to a main church in a diocese of the Christian denominations Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church,Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church.

  1. It's been two weeks since the Moscow Patriarchate approved a document clarifying that Russia's Special Military Operation in Ukraine is a "Holy War".

I am surprised, really shocked, that there is not more discussion about this.

  2. Perhaps the other Churches aren't talking about it, because they are busy praying for peace, as the Middle East is on the verge of a full-on war.

The world is on fire, literally.   I think the messianic pretentions of the Moscow Patriarchate are quite a minor concern at the moment.   Nobody wants to talk, so there is no point in talking.   Prayer and the rending of garments for our sins is the only thing to do now, as events have to run their course.

    1. The Estonian government is now contemplating the labeling of the Moscow Patriarchate as a terrorist organization and confiscating their state-owned leases. Yes, I guess this a minor concern. And if other governments decide to label the Moscow Patriarchate a terrorist organization, at least there remain the churches of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

    1. David, war in Ukraine started in 2014, before the EP did anything. Even if the EP had not created the OCU, there would still have been the Russian invasion of 2022. If the EP had completely ignored Ukraine, there would still be angry Ukrainian villagers demanding the ban of the MP, but also demanding that their village church join the schismatic "Kievan Patriarchate" or UGCC instead.

The Moscow Patriarchate is now calling the war in Ukraine a "Holy War" against "the Satanic West". That term "Holy War" doesn't exist in the Bible, nor does it exist in Patristic literature. It sounds more like a Roman Catholic crusade or Muslim Jihad. It's not an Orthodox term, nor is it really a Christian one.

And who is the "Satanic West" that Russia is presently attacking in their "Holy War"? Apparently the "Satanic West" is Orthodox Christian Ukrainians who are presently trying to defend their country.
