Several websites of both Eastern and Oriental Orthodox affiliation were hacked today by a man claiming to be from Tunisia who stated his efforts were in support of "the religion of Allah and Islam." Many websites, such as orthodox.net and the web presence of the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate, were the target of website defacement and denial of service (DoS) attacks. Most, if not all, of the websites compromised have returned to pre-attack states, though it is not clear if all sites have resolved the vulnerabilities that let the attacker in. Further information will be posted as more details become available.
I'm pretty sure OrthodoxWiki was among them.
ReplyDeleteFurther updates from people tell me entire hosting companies serving Orthodox websites were hacked. They have since been patched and moved to more secure servers.
