"Conversations With Our Bishops" series now online

A person from the Assembly asked me to stop calling it the "Episcopal Assembly," so I've decided to go with their suggested "Assembly of Bishops" ("AOB" for short). There is a podcast of these conversations on Ancient Faith Radio you can listen and subscribe to here. Having listened to some of these talks, let me say they are not fluff. Fr. Josiah Trenham asks direct, probing questions and the bishops answer with great candor.

(AOB) - "Conversations With Our Bishops" is a series of audio interviews of the Assembly's fifty-three member hierarchs by Archpriest Josiah Trenham (proïstamenos of St Andrew Church in Riverside, CA and director of "Patristic Nectar Publications") for the purpose of providing a broad swath of perspectives to the Church-at-large on the significance and work of the Assembly. Currently, there are 5 interviews below and more will be released over the coming months.

The twelve-member Secretariat of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America meets via teleconference each month to oversee the work of the Assembly's thirteen Committees and its Endorsed Agencies and to initiate new projects in accordance with the Decision and Regulations promulgated by the Fourth Pre-Conciliar Pan-Orthodox Conference at Chambésy. One of the important responsibilities assigned to the Secretariat is the creation of avenues by which the work of the Assembly may be communicated to the Orthodox Christians of our region - the priests, deacons, monastics, lay men and lay women.

In so doing the Secretariat has initiated two new projects for the Assembly: (1.) a soon-to-be announced, over-arching Communications Program being developed by Mr. Alex Machaskee (retired publisher, president and CEO of Cleveland's major newspaper "The Plain Dealer"), and (2.) "Conversations With Our Bishops," a series of audio interviews of the Assembly's fifty-three member hierarchs by Archpriest Josiah Trenham (proïstamenos of St Andrew Church in Riverside, CA and director of "Patristic Nectar Publications") for the purpose of providing a broad swath of perspectives to the Church-at-large on the significance and work of the Assembly.

Today, this latter project - "CONVERSATIONS WITH OUR BISHOPS: Hierarchical interviews on the nature and work of the Assembly of Bishops" - is being inaugurated with the posting on this web site of the first five interviews:
  • Interview with Bishop Daniel, Western Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA
  • Interview with Bishop Maxim, Western American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church of North America
  • Interview with Archbishop Nicolae, Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in the Americas
  • Interview with Bishop Ilia, Albanian Orthodox Archdiocese of America
  • Interview with Bishop Thomas, Diocese of Charleston, Oakland and the Mid-Atlantic States of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America
