Orthodox against bullying

NEW YORK (GOARCH) – In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month, the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries (Y2AM) is leading efforts to raise awareness of the problem of bullying, and offer a comforting word to youth that may be struggling.

“We’re asking the faithful to join our #StandAgainstBullying campaign,” said Father Jason Roll, Director. “We need to give our youth the strength to stand and realize their true value, as children of God. And we all need to stand with those who suffer from bullying, because no one should ever feel alone or unloved.”

Throughout the month of October, the Department will release weekly videos in support of #StandAgainstBullying on their “Y2AM” YouTube channel, which can be accessed at www.youtube.com/user/y2am.

The popular weekly YouTube series “Be the Bee” will dedicate its October 3 episode to bullying awareness, and is also available on the Y2AM channel. New episodes are released every Thursday.

“Bullying is built on a lie,” said Youth Protection / Parish Ministries Coordinator, Steven Christoforou. “No person is worthless, we’re all unique and unrepeatable miracles. And no person stands alone, we’re always in the loving presence of God and His Church, even though we may not always be aware of it. The best response to the lie of bullying is the truth of the Gospel, which is Christ Himself.”
