why exactly "a" miraculously transformed into "o" in transliteration?
ReplyDeleteWe live in a world of miracles.
Delete"Kolyada" is a transliteration from Russian, "Каляда" is the Belarusian word. Written Belarusian has a fairly regular 'о' -> 'а' change in unstressed positions when compared to other east Slavic languages.
DeleteI know that, martiancyclist. I speak Belarusian.
