Arc of New Martyrs to tour Russia

St. Petersburg, January 18 (Interfax) - The relics of new martyrs who died for faith after the revolution in Russia will be brought to the dioceses of the Moscow Patriarchate in a special arc.

"The arc will be brought to all dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church," Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga was quoted as saying by the local metropolia.

The arc is now being made, the metropolitan said. It will contain the relics of all new martyrs whose remains have been obtained. The event will be held to mark the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution.

The names of several dozens of people who died for faith in the years after the revolution are now known, and over 1,000 of them have been called new martyrs. Among them are Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra Fyodorovna and their five children.

    The original is in Holy Epiphany Russian Orthodox Church in Roslindale (Boston) MA. Painted I believe by Popkov, it was prepared for the 1981 ROCOR canonization, and the original is quite large.

    I don't understand why there isn't more information available on the lives of the 1,000 new martyrs mentioned in this article. There may not be much detail on many, but it would seem to be the basis of at least a book.

OCA takes strong stand for canonical Orthodoxy

( Orthochristian.com ) - The primate of the Orthodox Church in America, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada, will concelebrate with the primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, in western Ukraine later this week. The Ukrainian Orthodox Diocese of Chernivtsi and Bukovina “awaits the visit of the primate of the Orthodox Church in America on June 1–2, 2024. Solemn services will be held in the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Chernivtsi, with the participation of both primates.” The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America formally rejects communion with the schismatics of the “Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” recognizing only the canonical UOC under Met. Onuphry. The Ukrainian primate was the honored guest at the OCA’s 18th All-American Council in July 2015.
