A metropolitan for the Romanians in the Americas


(Basilica.ro) - On April 30, the Sunday of the Myrrhbearing Women, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae (Condrea) was enthroned as the first Romanian Orthodox metropolitan of the Americas. The event took place after the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of Sts. Constantine and Helen in Chicago.

The delegation of the Romanian Patriarchate was led by Metropolitan Nifon of Târgoviște.

The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church established the new metropolis on October 28, 2016, and then-Archbishop Nicolae was elevated to the rank of metropolitan on Sunday October 30, 2016 after the Divine Liturgy in the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, with His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel presiding.

His Eminence Archbishop Nicolae was born on April 15, 1967 in Constanta, Romania. He attended high school in Constanta and Bucharest and continued with the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Sibiu from 1988 to 1992. He earned a Master’s Degree (1995) and a PhD in Theology (2001) at Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg, France.

He was tonsured into monasticism in December 2001 at Radu Vodă Monastery in Bucharest, and has served as the Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of the Americas since 2002.

The Holy Synod also established the Diocese of Canada at its October meeting, and Bishop Ioan Casian is to be enthroned as its ruling bishop on Sunday, May 7, in St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Montreal.

      Yeah...I was wondering the same thing. So, now besides the Romanian Episcopate in the OCA, we now have another bishop for yet another jurisdiction. It's been around a while, just now they brought a bishop. But, still...American orthodox political unity slips further out of reach.

    Hello, the bishop has been the rulineng bishop in America already 15 years now. The only difference is that now his diocese becomes a Metropolitan see.

Coptic Church SUSPENDS dialogue with Catholic Church

( OCP ) - Cairo – Egypt: The plenary session of the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church was held on March 07.2024, at the Logos Center at the Papal Residence in the Monastery of Saint Anba Bishoy in Wadi Natroun, headed by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, and attended by 110 of its 133 members. "Those people in the back" - a quandary

By me if any man enter in he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture." - John 10:9 At every parish where I have had the pleasure of attending services, there is always a small group of people who find their way all the way up to the church building but don't actually attend services. At one parish it was a group of male gypsies who talked on cellphones or smoked cigarettes. At another it was a few Protestant husbands who, though they never attended services, opened the parish doors for people as they filed in. At yet another parish the men stood in the narthex and chatted until it was time to receive and then got in line. Latin or Greek Catholic, Eastern or Oriental Orthodox I see the same small throng of men standing next to the front door, but not standing, sitting, or kneeling amongst the people.
