UOC-KP, UAOC primates... canonical?

Uncorroborated, but it does make sense. You can't really get the people without the leaders very easily. Accepting them in retirement is a standard way of normalizing a schismatic body, but that's not always possible in such situations.

(orthodoxia.info) - The schismatic Patriarch of Kiev, Filaret, and the schismatic Archbishop of Ukraine, Makariy, are as of today considered canonical hierarchs of the Orthodox Church.

The two clerics, who are the heads of Ukraine’s two schismatic Churches, had made an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarchate requesting their past convictions be re-assessed.

According to well-informed sources close to orthodoxia.info, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate has accepted this appeal and restored them to canonical status.

The exact details and conditions of the decision remain unkown, as well as the number of hierarchs that will subsequently be recognized.

The official communiqué of the Ecumenical Patriarchate is yet to be issued.

  1. Well, the OCA accepted two bishops consecrated by Filaret as retired bishops. One wonders if they were made bishops before or after Filaret being deposed by the MP.

    1. They were consecrated by old calendrists, and made a written renunciation of their association with Filaret. Many salient questions were made regarding that reception, but the actual details are not as Boris said.

    2. All I know is that they were in that Kyiv jurisdiction. When Filaret actually consecrated them, I don't know.

  2. The EP didn't make the UOC-KP or the UAOC canonical. They made itself uncanonical. Faithful priests and laity under the EPs jurisdiction(particularly in America) should resist, and if necessary leave for a canonical jurisdiction.

  3. Do you really think those in the GOAA will do that? There's no way they will leave their ethnic enclaves. I am, however, really curious what the Athonite monasteries in the U.S will do, and, what the monasteries of Mt. Athos will do.

  4. The EP just married itself to schismatics. Terrible day for the church, Constantinople has finally fully fallen.

    1. Come on. Many Orthodox jurisdictions have done worse things, including the MP when they absorbed the Georgian Orthodox Church. They had even less claim on Georgia than the EP does on Ukraine. It was bad. The church survived. Stop setting your hair on fire.
