Sr. Vassa: There's no ontological impediment to priestesses
Is the male-only priesthood a discipline or essential to the nature of being a priest? Sr. Vassa (again unflinchingly taking up a contentious topic by climbing up the ladder to the highest platform and then jumping into the deep end head first) dives right in and says there is no reason beyond personal preference to not have female clergy. You know, when people ask me about women in priesthood, they say, 'Sister, why can't women be priests?' And I say, 'Women CAN be priests. We don't WANT them to be priests.' Because you see, God can do anything, and the Church, by divine authority, uh, can do anything, but, the Church doesn't want to - and that's a legitimate reason. What I don't like is when we TRY to pretend that there are other reasons for this, because it's legitimate not to want something, and there are reasons not to want this - right? - but, we shouldn't pretent that there's some... reason, that, for example, the maleness...
Diversity is not necessarily Division
( CMC ) - From 25 January to 2 February, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is being held in Jerusalem, with the theme: ‘Do you believe this?’ (Jn 11:26). This year marks the 1,700th anniversary of the first Christian Ecumenical Council, held in Nicaea, which gives us the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the common faith of Christians.
I do not have the time to watch this video. Can anyone tell me if he was asked why the Patriarch of Constantinople now believes that the EP is first without equal? Also, was he asked why his Patriarch created a abomination consisting of unrepentant schismatics in Ukraine which they refer to as an autocephalous church?
ReplyDeletei was told last wee kby an ukrainin greek catholic canon that the there is a plan between francis and brat black bart to make all of the patriarchates honorific titles, with only rome, constantinople, antioch, alexandria, and jerusalem remaining as the only authenic patriarchates. my only observation is that we are not living in 500 a.d.
ReplyDeleteSigh. At 25:00 they start blathering about the idiotic money hole the Greeks decided to dig, the "shrine". If there was a possibility of taking him seriously before, it's gone. AFR needs to rethink how they decide to do programming. The Fr. Thomas Hopko series of talks was their high water mark. This kind of puff piece isn't useful.
ReplyDeleteVery little of the interview was about the St. Nicholas Shrine. I can't believe you listened to the same interview that I did. I as a member of GOA, I was encouraged at the humility and strategic approach of his Eminence to the real issues our churches are facing. Axios. May he be worthy!
