(AAC16) - “As has been reported, there will be a special pilgrimage to Sitka, following the Council, for the consecration of the new bishop of Alaska. (OCA-AK) - Vladyko BENJAMIN reviewed the Orthodox model of nomination and election of a ruling Bishop. In all cases, a Diocese nominates one or more candidate(s) for their Diocese, and the Holy Synod elects the Bishop. All candidates are vetted by the Holy Synod, and Bishop BENJAMIN explained the vetting process. His Grace is proposing Abbot Gerasim (Eliel), and he believes he is the best candidate for our Diocese. He further assured us that if, as a Diocese, we do not wish to nominate anyone at this time, we are not required to do so. It is hoped, however, that at next year’s Assembly, we will be prepared to nominate a candidate(s) and that, at the fall Holy Synod meeting, an election will take place. Episcopal Candidate Committee: Fathers Michael Oleksa, John Dunlop, and Vasily Fisher, and Patrick Pletnikoff, and Richard Dauenhauer. Any deanery that wishes to nominate someone for consideration as a candidate for our Diocesan Bishop should submit names to any member of this committee.
