I hope to visit when they open (the website says they are aiming for an August opening). For those a little closer to Harrisburg they are also accepting applications. They also have a Facebook page (see here).

In August 2011 the Orthodox Christian Charities of Greater Harrisburg, Inc. (OCCGH) an IRS approved, 501 (c) (3) is slated to open the Agia Sophia Coffee House and Bookstore at 225 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA. The original Agia Sophia was opened in Colorado Springs, CO in 2006 and this project is an effort to duplicate the Colorado coffee house’s successful model of community outreach, education and philanthropy. OCCGH, established in 2009, is comprised of clergy and faithful from five local Orthodox churches of various jurisdictions, and currently provides a weekly Bible Study for downtown workers every Wednesday at noon.
Orthodox Christians from throughout North America and beyond are invited to visit the project website and the charities website for more information.
A generous donation from the Virginia H. Farah Foundation as well as support (both financial & professional) from local parishes and from the faithful throughout North America and abroad has allowed OCCGH to realize their goal of bringing this project within weeks of opening. But ultimately, says Fr. Stephen Vernak of Christ the Savior parish in Harrisburg, “We humbly acknowledge that it is our Lord who has ‘provided the increase’…glory to God for all things!”
It is inspiring -- as well as a great accomplishment -- that the Orthodox Christian Charities of Greater Harrisburgh, Inc. will be opening the Agia Sophia Coffee House and Bookstore next month.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the residents of Pennsylvania are very fortunate that such an institution is being established in their state.
