Oriental Orthodox, Catholic Church joint commission to meet

PAMPAKUDA, January 29 (Oriental Orthodox Church) - The Eleventh meeting of the International Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches begins in Pampakuda near Kochi, Kerala, India, on Tuesday January 28.

All the Oriental Orthodox Churches, with the exception of the Antiochian Syrian Orthodox Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Church, were represented, namely the Armenian Apostolic Church (Catholicosate of All Armenians), the Armenian Apostolic Church (Holy See of Cilicia), the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, and the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

The Roman Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches delegations met separately on the morning of Tuesday January 28. The Joint Commission begins its four-day plenary session on Wednesday.

The endeavour of this year’s dialogue is to discuss the relevance of the nature and communion of the united and undivided Apostolic Church that existed till the fifth century A.D., in the present day Churches. The dialogue also seeks to emphasise that communion in worship and sacraments is multi-faceted and multi-layered, hence putting the onus on the Churches to realise this aim.

Seminar papers relating to liturgy and pilgrimage will be presented by eminent scholars such as Metropolitan Anba Bishoy, Fr Shenouda Masher Ishak, Metropolitan George Saliba, Fr B Varghese, Metropolitan Yuhanon Demetrius, Archbishop Yeznik Petrosyan, Fr Shahe Ananyan, Fr Daniel Feleke, Fr Columba Stewart and Fr Bagos Louvain.

The meeting was hosted by His Holiness Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose II, Catholicos–Patriarch of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

The discussions would conclude on February 2.

    Please note that Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose II is not the Patriarch of Malankara Orthodox Church. And there is no Catholicos-Patriarch in Malankara Orthodox Church. But the Patriarch of Antiochian Syrian Orthodox Church is the Patriarch of the said Malankara Orthodox Church. Please be kind enough to rectify the mistake.
    Please be double sure before using this kind of hierarchical names.

Coptic Church SUSPENDS dialogue with Catholic Church

( OCP ) - Cairo – Egypt: The plenary session of the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church was held on March 07.2024, at the Logos Center at the Papal Residence in the Monastery of Saint Anba Bishoy in Wadi Natroun, headed by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, and attended by 110 of its 133 members. "Those people in the back" - a quandary

By me if any man enter in he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture." - John 10:9 At every parish where I have had the pleasure of attending services, there is always a small group of people who find their way all the way up to the church building but don't actually attend services. At one parish it was a group of male gypsies who talked on cellphones or smoked cigarettes. At another it was a few Protestant husbands who, though they never attended services, opened the parish doors for people as they filed in. At yet another parish the men stood in the narthex and chatted until it was time to receive and then got in line. Latin or Greek Catholic, Eastern or Oriental Orthodox I see the same small throng of men standing next to the front door, but not standing, sitting, or kneeling amongst the people.
