When Filaret shows up at your funeral service

(RISU) - Profound ecumenical gesture: head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate, patriarch Filaret celebrated the panakhyda (memorial service) for the repose of the departed Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar) at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Cathedral in Kyiv.

    They share a commitment to opposing the only canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine. They were bound to come to the old "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" conclusion eventually. Lord, please bless and protect your faithful servants in Ukraine!

    While I realize that the UGCC & UOC-KP (non-canonical) are allies I honestly look at the faces of the others in the picture and no one seems happy to see him.

    Maybe it's because they know that Filaret was never Ukrainian until he got passed over to be Patriarch of Moscow. Suddenly, he rediscoved his Ukrainian roots so that he could be Patriarch of Ukraine. But the Ukrainian Catholics seem to have no trouble supporting him. I suspect that's why the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox have to kiss up to the Ukrainian Catholics. They dönt want to lose any more parishes to Filaret. Of course, there also is nationalism...

OCA takes strong stand for canonical Orthodoxy

( Orthochristian.com ) - The primate of the Orthodox Church in America, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada, will concelebrate with the primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, in western Ukraine later this week. The Ukrainian Orthodox Diocese of Chernivtsi and Bukovina “awaits the visit of the primate of the Orthodox Church in America on June 1–2, 2024. Solemn services will be held in the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Chernivtsi, with the participation of both primates.” The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America formally rejects communion with the schismatics of the “Orthodox Church in Ukraine,” recognizing only the canonical UOC under Met. Onuphry. The Ukrainian primate was the honored guest at the OCA’s 18th All-American Council in July 2015.
