EP calls different Paschal dates a "scandal"
( Orthodox Times ) - Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew extended in his homily his heartfelt wishes to all the non-Orthodox Christians who celebrated the Holy Easter on Sunday, March 31, after presiding over the Sunday Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Theodore of the Community of Vlanga. “On this day, the timeless message of the Resurrection resonates more profoundly than ever, as our non-Orthodox Christian brethren and sisters commemorate the resurrection of our Lord from the dead, celebrating Holy Easter. We have already sent our representatives to all the Christian Communities of the confessions here, to extend our heartfelt wishes of the Holy Great Church of Christ and our Patriarchal congratulations. But also from this position we extend a heartfelt greeting of love to all Christians around the world who celebrate Holy Easter today. We beseech the Lord of Glory that the forthcoming Easter celebration next year will not merely be a fortuitous occurrence, but rather the beginning...
That's the second time in two years I've seen this many hierarchs from so many Local Churches gathered in Moscow. The first time was just over a year ago for the Liturgy on Patriarch Kirill's 70th birthday. Warms the heart!

DeleteSurprise!
DeleteI suppose these Most Holy and Most Reverend Prelates all listened so attentively to Putin. Well, were they all snoring as he spoke?
ReplyDeleteHe spoke for 15-20 and mainly mentioned the Saint (Patriarch) Typhoon's sacrifice for his country. It wasn't something you'd snore through. Putin kept it clear and concise.

DeleteYes, and did Putin say that the Communists and KGB were responsible for St. Tikhon's death and then the virtual elimination of the Russian Church? Of course not - Putin is an unreformed KGB man at heart. It was scandalous that he was ever allowed to address a Church Synod.
DeleteBTW, if neither Theophilos nor John back away that willd be their first concelebration since that Qatar nonsense.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Antiochian one did not concelebrate after all.
DeleteIf you have the power, you need not tell the world, all you need to do is to exhibit it --- the Third Rome is alive and well, and following the recent PEW Study, Moscow does exhibit a tremendous more leadership than the Phanar does. This is a great exhibition of fraternity and hopefully co-operation ---- all for the good of all -- many years!
ReplyDeleteOne nice thing about this, IMO: it shows that the heads of local churches can get together without too much fuss to build fellowship and (we can hope) discuss issues among them. No need to spend decades on a "Council."
ReplyDeletesure, let they pretend everything is fine, then go back home and start fighting each other again.
DeleteWhat was the purpose of this gathering? Why no CoG or EP?
